NEW DRAWING BY S CLAY WILSON INCLUDED IN MONUMENTAL SHOW

La Luz de Jesus celebrates 25 years in two parts, each with its own opening night. Wilson’s piece is being shown in Part 1, opening Oct.7-8 from 8-11pm, and runs for a month. (Part 11 opens Nov 4-5)

The accompanying book, “La Luz de Jesus 25: The Little Gallery That Could” features images of all the 260 artists’ work from both shows.

The Gallery is located at 4633 Hollywood Blvd, LA, CA 90027. Director Matt Kennedy’s number isĀ 323-666-7667, or for information, emailĀ info@laluzdejesus.com.

Wilson’s piece is one of the last before he stopped drawing.
La Luz de Jesus became famous as much for its splashy, raucous monthly opening parties as for the often outrageous and confrontational art on its walls. Many artists who are successful today credit Billy Shire with launching their careers, and he is widely acknowledged as a seminal figure in contemporary art movements such as Lowbrow and Pop Surrealism.

S.Clay, you rule. Simple as that. One of my high school friends and I created our own underground comic books back in the 80’s called Twisted Tales and your influence was all over em. Sure there was a little Irons here and a little Crumb there with a dash of Holmes and Aragon’es for good measure but mostly it was all you. Of course we never sold a single issue cause I think they might have been so over the top they’re illegal but you would have been proud and that’s all that matters. All the rest of the schlubs who penned comix were pale shadows standing in the glory of your brilliance. I wish I had a poster of your new drawing cause I’d put it on my wall in a frame with a spot light on it and create a shrine dedicated to you to kneel and worship before. The Government should pay you millions just for the privilege of breathing the same air as you and if they’re not then fuck em, they suck anyway.
    Your biggest fan,
    Hawk
